Studies have found that women's headaches are worse than they are in men. Estrogen may be the answer. Changes in the estrogen
levels during the menstrual cycle can cause headaches. Headaches are usually triggered by something. By identifying the
cause of your headache, you will be able to take some preventive measures. The preventive measures will vary according to the type of
headache you are more likely to get. The kinds of headache are categorized according to the underlying causes: Headache Types
Muscle contraction headaches –> Tension Headache Vascular headaches –> Migraine Headache and Cluster Headache
Sinus problem headaches -> Sinus Headache
Figure out which of the above headache type you get to find out the cause or causes of
headache.
The most common type, the tension headache, which afflict almost everyone at one time or another, may develop from painful muscle spasms
in the neck, jaw and head. Irritated nerve endings by tense muscles in the head and neck are the main source of pain. Chemical changes in the
brain, tension and emotional stress may also be the source. Tension headaches are usually temporary
and infrequent and disappear if one or two tablets of aspirin are taken or as an alternative, you could try some headache home remedies.
Migraine headaches are the most exhausting and severe of headaches. Like tension headaches, cannot be
traced to any general health disorder. Usually, migraine sets in with suddenness with throbbing pain in the front and top part of the head,
normally on one side of the head. Migraine headaches seem to be associated to changes in the diameter of
the blood vessels in the head, blood vessels that first constrict and then dilate to throb distressingly. Such changes may be attributed to an
imbalance of a brain chemical known as seratonin, which can be caused due to changes in the sleep pattern. Hormonal changes in women and
sensitivity to foods or chemicals may also trigger migraines. Migraine headaches can last from a few hours to three days. Genetics can play a role in migraines, as they occur
repeatedly in some persons and families. Migraines are also accompanied by stomach discomforts,
nausea and sensitivity to light.
Cluster headaches are known by a torturous and severe pain around one eye, usually accompanied by nasal
congestion and a rosy-cheeked face. This type of headache have the tendency to arise in bunches, thus the name cluster headaches. A bombardment
of four or more headaches may occur in one day. Cluster headaches only last from about 1 to 2 hours
disappearing altogether only to recur possibly the next day. This pattern may continue for weeks or even months before going into long intervals
of remission. The exact cause of cluster headaches remains unknown, however cluster headaches may originate from pressure on nerves around the
eye. The majority of cluster headaches sufferers are males.
Sinus Headaches are distinguished by a burning pain in the nasal area, forehead and eyes. Sinus headaches
are linked to a sinus infection. Congestion within the sinus cavities results in swelling that puts pressure on surrounding tissues and nerves,
creating pain on the face.
